The whole drama is revealed through the everyday routine of Diouana, a young Senegalese woman, who moves from Dakar, Senegal to Antibes, France to work for an affluent couple. His last film “Moolaadé” (2004) addresses the subject of female genital mutilation and won the Prix Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival. Sembène, who hailed from Senegal, is often considered the father of African film, and his movies are known for their historical and political themes. The film won the prestigious Jean Vigo for its artistic originality.
